As the International Forum on Inclusion comes to a close in Cali UNESCO Institute for Statistics reveals that 258 million school-age children (6-17) were not in school in 2018. While the number of out-of-school children appears to have dropped from 262 million as reported last year, the fall is largely due to a methodological change in the way the indicators are calculated. Children of primary school age who are in pre-school, who were previously included in the total, are no longer counted as being out of school. However, this does not change the overall rates of children out of school.
